Based on the semi-biographical writing of George Tabori, inspired by his mother, "My Mother's Courage" offers one of the more surrealistic views of the Holocaust I have ever seen. It is an excellent follow-up to "The Nasty Girl."
This German and British collaboration offers an unusually lighthearted look at the good fortune of the mother of writer George Tabori, who was spared interment at a Nazi concentration camp through ...

My (Grand)Mother’s Courage – A SEQUEL TO THE STORY: This article was a true eye opener for me because I never realized to what extent we, the third generation of Holocaust survivors, were more privy to our grandparents’ travails than our parents were.
Mother Courage and Her Children (1939) by Bertolt Brecht Digitalized by RevSocialist for SocialistStories
The play follows the adventures of Anna Fierling, a.k.a. Mother Courage, who runs a canteen business during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). She tours Europe with a covered wagon of wares for sale, booze for soldiers and her three children in tow.
Mother Courage is the play's primary small businesswoman, parasitically living off of the war with her canteen wagon. As the Model Book observes the "big profits are not made by little people." Courage's commitment to the business of war will cost her children, the war taking back for what it has provided her in flesh.
Mother Courage, with its theme of the devastating effects of a European war and the blindness of anyone hoping to profit by it, is said to have been written in a month; judging by the almost complete absence of drafts or any other evidence of preliminary studies, it must have been an exceptionally direct piece of inspiration.
Mother Courage Mother Courage is a play by Bertolt Brecht that was first performed in 1941.
